A Heap of Anime News Dropped Over the Holidays
The Christmas holidays provide a plethora of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than checking the updates: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and harnessing patience techniques to refrain from snapping at relatives. It is wished you managed to do all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting developments emerged during the festive period, and just in case you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter the series' continuation. Season 3 will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which might be a good sign. But, the main art for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they must be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now everyone is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Immediately following the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
